Other classmates' opinions about "To a Daughter Leaving Home."

“To a Daughter Leaving Home” is the family poems that many people say worthy to be taught in the classroom adding different supporting reasons. Most of the people who read this poem feel family love, and for this reason, they insist this poem would be good source that facilitates students’ literary sensibility. In addition to this reason, there are two other reasons emphasized by three bloggers. They say the poem is easy to “activate students’ schema” and written with easy words.

John Jung points out that “this poem is easy to activate students’ schema on a pedagogical view”. The topic of this poem can easily arouse students’ interest and that should help to get them have their own motivation on a literacy class (Jung, 2015.9.29). As another reason, Sehoon Lee says the poem is written with words these are on proper level  fitting with high school student level. He insists that the poem is consisted with not too long sentences with proper number of words. Also he says that this poem would make students who have anxiety on English feel relieve (Lee, 2015.9.23). As a supporting point of what Lee mentions, Yenny Hwang says that because of the easy words, the poem gives motivation to students to read it and find the meaning of the metaphors (Hwang, 2015.9.29). Three of those people insist that the poem is good to be read in the classroom.

In summary, Jung chooses this poem because of its topic which is easily activates students’ schema, and Lee and Hwang also recommend the poem for a reason that it is written with easy words that would make students feel less anxious on English reading. All their reasons are valid reasons these are enough to students encourage to read this poem. As they say, if the students read this poem, it would be valuable time nurturing literary ability that reading the poem.
